Through the last leg of the Tour de France, Armstrong starts to pull ahead. He has waited for this moment all of his life - the day that he would win the Tour de France. These past months of training and the race have deteriorated his spirit. He's fatigued, both mentally and physically. However he has seen his chance to prevail and he took it. As the gap opened around the final turn, he dipped to the inside, decreasing his radius and thus shortening his distance. It's now or never he thinks as his giant calf muscles contract faster and faster as the bike accelerates towards the finish line with only open road in front of him.
